    About Our Program

The High Scope Preschool Curriculum is an open-framework instructional model. It is based on Jean Piaget's constructivist theory of child development blended with the best of traditional teacher experience.

The High Scope approach is about helping students become independent, responsible, and confident-ready for success in school. Students learn to plan many of their own activities, carry them out, and talk with other children and their teacher about what they have done. They learn through active involvement with people, materials, events, and idea. Knowledge and skills are gained in content areas, such as creative representation, language and literacy, initiative and social relations, movement, music, classification, seriation, number, space, and time. The High/Scope framework is like a climbing structure full of active children making their way to the top. With adults always at hand to assist them in reaching for the next level but never pushing them beyond their capacity.

Each day follows a similar schedule of events, providing consistency for both children and adults. A daily plan-do-review process is at the core of the High/Scope routine and gives children the opportunity to pursue their own interest, make plans, follow through on them, and reflect on their experience with peers and adults. Large and small group experiences are also a part of the daily routine.
