    Dear Parents and Guardians,

Once again, we are excited to tell you about our elementary summer reading program. We hope that your children will look forward to reading this summer and discover books they will truly enjoy. The philosophy behind our summer reading assignments is based on best practices in literary instruction. Research tells us that students need to read during the summer months to maintain their independent reading levels.

Students should be encouraged to choose from a wide variety of books that will allow them to select books that appeal to their individual interests. We encourage parents and guardians to be actively involved in selecting appropriate books for your child. Students may also select books that are not included on the reading lists to fulfill their summer reading assignment.

The suggested titles for summer reading are located on the district website at www.oldbridgeschools.org. Please look for the SUMMER ASSIGNMENTS button.

Continue to the left side of the page and click on the grade level your child will be entering in September. Note: There is no summer reading for entering Kindergartners.

The Old Bridge Township Public Library also has a list of grade level appropriate titles available. You can access the list through this link: http://www.oldbridgelibrary.org/kids_book_lists.html

Please encourage your child to read every day - with your support, we want to make this another summer that encourages your child to fall in love with reading!

    Wishing you a wonderful summer!

    Sincerely,

    Denise Lombardi
