The Old Bridge Township Public Schools science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) club began in January 2018. Students carry out exciting experiments, challenges, and projects during the two month program and develop their problem solving, team work, and leadership skills.
The club is open to students from 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades at Cheesequake, Cooper, Madison Park, and Memorial Elementary Schools. Students are chosen by a lottery system and meet once a week with the teachers.
We have partnered with Club Invention to bring exciting lessons that capitalize on the essence of STEM – inquiry, problem solving, testing hypotheses, and reworking ideas until they are successful. In 2018 students traveled to Planet ROG where they met an alien species that resides there. They were entrusted to help the inhabitants solve various problems in space and on the planet. In 2019 students are working to solve problems faced by the animals across our country. From black bears foraging for food to birds threatened by an oil spill, our students have been working on creating safe spaces for these animals.
