    Lesson  # 3  Hand Tool Safety

    OBJECTIVE: TLW: Identify and use the safety procedures and practices used when working with hand tools in a wood shop.

    OBJECTIVE: TLW: Identify and use the safety procedures and practices used when working with hand tools in a wood shop.

    3b Cutting and Saws (Hand tools)

    OBJECTIVE: TLW: Cutting (types of saw and cuts) Identify and select proper saws and types of cuts. Name the basic types of cuts made with saws. Properly use an appropriate handsaw for a specific cutting task, observing all safety rules. Review Shop Safety.

           3c Hand Drills (Hand tools)

    OBJECTIVE: TLW: Drilling (types of Drills and bits) Identify and select proper Drills and bits.

    Name the basic types of cuts made with Drill. Properly use an appropriate Drill for a specific Drilling task, observing all safety rules.  Review Shop Safety.

          3d Cutting and Saws (Miter Box and Back Saw)

    OBJECTIVE: TLW: Cutting (Miter Box and Back Saw)

    Identify and select proper saws and types of cuts. Name the basic types of cuts made with Miter Box and Back Saw. Properly use an appropriate Miter Box and Back Saw for a specific cutting task, observing all safety rules. Review Shop Safety.

      3e Clamps (Vise, Wooden Hand Screw Clamp)

    Identify and select proper clamps. Properly use appropriate clamps for a specific task, observing all safety rules. Review Shop Safety

      3f Hammer /Nails

    OBJECTIVE: TLW: Identify and select proper Hammer. Properly use appropriate hammers for a specific task, observing all safety rules. Review Shop Safety

     

     

    Lesson  # 4  Designing and Planning

    OBJECTIVE: TLW: Draw simply sketches and correctly read drawings in order to layout materials. List the three keys to good design List the three basic steps in planning a project.

    OBJECTIVE: TLW: Draw simply sketches and correctly read drawings in order to layout materials for Letter Project.. Identify and use the safety procedures and practices used when working with hand tools (Coping Saw, Clamp, and rule) in a wood shop.

    OBJECTIVE: TLW: Identify and select proper sandpaper and files. Review Shop Safety.

    Lesson  # 6  THE DRILL PRESS (Machines)

    OBJECTIVE: TLW: to use the drill press, identify and use the safety procedures and practices used when working with the drill press.

     

    Lesson  # 7  THE SCROLL SAW (Machines)

    OBJECTIVE: TLW: to use the Scroll Saw, identify and use the safety procedures and practices used when working with the Scroll Saw.

     

    Lesson  # 8  Finishing

    OBJECTIVE: TLW: Use a water-based or water-based stain to stain wood. Apply a wood sealer. Know when a filler is needed and how to apply it. Apply clear surface finishes.

             8a  Fasten and Gluing

     OBJECTIVE: TLW: Use glue to fasten. Appling glue. Know when glue is needed and how to apply it.

             8b  Fasten and Gluing (HOTGLUE)

     OBJECTIVE: TLW: Use hot glue to fasten the Metal to the lid.. Appling glue. Know when glue is needed and how to apply it.

     

    LESSON # 9  Understands and uses appropriate Joints and Joinery

    OBJECTIVE: TLW: Draw simply sketches and correctly read drawings in order to layout materials for appropriate Joints and Joinery. (Butt Joints, Miter joint, Dowelled Butt Joint, Lap joint, Dado joint, Bridle joint and Box Joint). List the three keys to good design for Joints. List the basic steps in planning Joints.

     

    LESSON # 10  Understands and uses appropriate steps for upholstering

    OBJECTIVE: TLW: Be introduced to the basics of upholstering furniture. To some extent, students will need to tailor directions to fit the particular piece of furniture they have chosen to upholster (their stool).  Students will be exposure to…Furniture Design and Construction, Covering Techniques Fabric, Types Measuring and Cutting. Activities (Measuring Fabric, Cutting Fabric, Covering a Footstool)Materials (Upholstery Materials, Chair Seats, Shears/Scissors, Muslin, Batting/Padding, Various Upholstery Supplies)
