    ENGLISH III COLLEGE PREPARATORY             (9211)                    Grade 11              5 Credits


    • Successful completion of English II

    English III examines the study of American literature from the Colonial period to the present. All English III students will be exposed to a core body of knowledge including a grade level vocabulary text, the basics of a research paper, and an intensive preparation for the HSPA. Core titles in the study of American Literature will include Death of a Salesman, The Great Gatsby, The Crucible, and Farewell to Manzanar. In addition to American literature selections, students will be required to read Tuesdays with Morrie.  English III CP students are required to read one (1) assigned book during the summer.

    ENGLISH III HONORS                 (9212)                    Grade 11              5 Credits (Honors)


    • Minimum grade of B- in English II Honors or A- in English II CP

    In addition to the requirements for English III CP, Honors students will be required to read American Literature such as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and/or The Red Badge of Courage, and The Scarlet Letter. Students will be required to write two critical analyses papers and one literary research project.  English III Honors students are required to read two (2) assigned books during the summer.
