Pre-Calculus

    Prerequisite:

    • Minimum grade of B- in Algebra II or minimum grade of C- in Algebra II Honors
    • Minimum grade of B- in Advanced Algebra/Trig

    The emphasis in this course is on the transition from secondary to university level mathematics. The course begins with an in-depth study of trigonometry and extends the ideas of functions. The second phase of the course introduces, in some depth, the topics of probability and statistical analysis. Linear algebra is introduced through elementary operations with matrices. Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on developing symbolic manipulation skills, as well as examining alternative strategies for solving familiar problems. Students will be expected to demonstrate proficient problem solving skills with and without calculators.

    Prerequisite:

    • Minimum grade of B- in Algebra II Honors or minimum grade of A- in Algebra II

    This course is part of the Middlesex Scholars Program with Middlesex County College.  The course extends the content of pre-calculus in several areas.  The transformation of trigonometric functions and the normal distribution in statistical analysis are investigated in greater depth. Sigma notation and inductive proofs are explored as an introduction to integration. Students at this level are expected to practice problem solving in a genuine sense and demonstrate reasonable comprehension of the reading material. Practice in symbolic manipulation is essential and will be emphasized throughout the course. Technology is available for use in analytic geometry, statistical analysis, and simulating experiments.  Students will be expected to demonstrate proficient problem solving skills with and without calculators.
