Mrs. McCabe's First Grade Class

  • Welcome to my first grade website! I hope this will be a useful resource for you to stay connected to our class. Please check back often for updates.

Here is some general information for parents:

It is important to check your child's take-home folder each night. Please remove all completed work from their folder each day. I encourage you to ask your child about the work they bring home. It is a wonderful opportunity to discuss their learning experiences.

Students will bring home their "homework notebook" Monday- Wednesday. Students should practice reading and spelling these words to increase phonics skills. Each week students will also get a new list of "words to know", which are the vocabulary words from our Journeys Literacy Program. These are sight words that we add to the word wall in school. These words are related to the shared reading books from our Journeys Literacy Progam. We do many reading, writing, and word study activities in class with these words, so it is important that students know them.

Students will bring home one math page for homework Monday- Wednesday. Download the Bounch Pages App to scan these homework pages. A reteaching video will appear!

Thursday is a good night to review sight words, practice math skills, and spend time reading with your child. No worksheets are assigned for homework.

Students will occasionaly be assigned specail projects, with ample time to complete them at home. Reminders will be sent to parents regarding due dates via Remind App. Please sign up for these notifications!

Our schedule regarding related arts is as follows:

    Monday.......... Art

    Tuesday......... computers

    (*Every other Tuesday.... Library)

    Wednesday...... Gym

    Thursday........ Gym

On Gym days, students should wear play clothes and sneakers. No jewelry.

Children will be borrowing books from the Miller School Library every other Tuesday. Students will be alerted in class the Monday before we will visit the Library. Please encourage your child to be responsible by caring for their book and returning it on our assigned Library day.

Birthdays may be celebrated in school. In accordance with Old Bridge Township Board Wellness Policy, a healthy finger snack of fruit, vegetables, popcorn, or graham crackers is suggested. We request no peanut products due to food allergies, and no drinks are necessary. Kindly send a note in advance notifying me of your celebration plans.

Feel free to contact me at any time if you have any questions or concerns.  I know that by working together, we will make this a wonderful year for your child!
