AP ENGLISH LITERATURE AND COMPOSITION (9218) Grade 12 5 Credits (AP)

Prerequisite:

  • Minimum grade of B in English III Honors or A in English III CP or B- in AP English Composition

AP English Literature and Composition is a high-level course in which students develop their close reading, logical writing, critical thinking, and public speaking skills through an extensive curriculum. Students analyze poetry and prose, recognize the impact of literary devices, actively participate in classroom discourse, and write literary analysis essays. A mandatory summer reading assignment requires students to read and write analytically on two classic novels, a poem, and supplementary readings. The summer assignment serves as a foundation for a significant portion of the first marking period as well as yearlong references to these works. AP English Literature and Composition is part of the Middlesex College Dual Enrollment Program, which can potentially award students college credits upon completion of the course.
