UNDERSTANDING EASYCBM RESULTS
Norm referenced assessments are designed to compare and rank test takers in relation to one another. Norm-referenced tests report whether test takers performed better or worse than average. The scores range from 1st percentile to 99th percentile, with the average student score set at the 50th percentile.
EasyCBM results are reported in percentiles. For example, if a student receives a percentile rank of 75, it does NOT mean that they answered 75% of questions correctly. Rather it means that they scored equal to or better than 75% of their grade-level peers.
Norm-referenced assessments are often used to evaluate basic reading, writing, and math skills.
EasyCBM is a norm-referenced assessment; therefore percentile ranks are based on the bell-curve. The average score is set at the 50 th percentile rank.
Scores falling within the 25th-75th percentile are considered to be within the average range.
Students whose scores fall within the 11th-25th are considered to be at some risk of not achieving grade-level expectations.
Students whose scores fall within the 76th-90th percentile are considered to be above average.
Students whose scores fall within the 10th percentile rank and lower are considered to be at high risk of not achieving grade-level expectations.
Students whose scores fall within the 90th percentile and above are considered to be significantly above average for that area measured.
