Nathan Pitts: First OBHS student accepted into Music Production program in University

We are proud to share that our first Music Production student at OBHS will be continuing their path in the music industry.  Nathan Pitts has been accepted to the SUNY Purchase Studio Production program, where he will continue his path as a musician, songwriter, producer and mix engineer.  The Studio Production program at SUNY Purchase has state-of-the-art studio facilities, and an experienced faculty with notable achievements in the music industry.  We asked Nathan to share a little bit about himself, and his experience in our Music Production program here at OBHS.

What is your musical background? How did you get into playing music?

A: I've always been into music and have grown up around a family that values music as well. I got a guitar in 5th grade for graduation, and didn't touch it for a year. Then, one day I attempted to learn the Bohemian Rhapsody solo, and I have been hooked ever since.

What is your main instrument and what type of music to you primarily play?

A: My main instrument is the guitar. I mainly play alternative rock.

How did the Music Production program here at OBHS help you prepare for your current music career, and your future studies at SUNY Purchase?

A: The program helped me not only improve as a musician, but to explore new avenues as well. Over a two-year period, it has given me a thorough and succinct understanding of music production techniques and the overall process. With what I have learned, I feel I have been given the necessary skills to succeed in college and in my future career.

What are your long-term goals after college in the music industry?

A: I plan to be an artist myself. With production, I will be able to record, produce, and engineer my own material.  I also thoroughly enjoy the process and would like to record others as well.

What message would you leave with other OBHS students who are getting into Music Production?

A: I would say to keep your mind open. You may not think production matters or that you won't need to know it, but it is truly a tool and an asset. Along with that, listen to everything and broaden your horizons.

Good luck Nathan!
